We strongly believe that companies can be powerful contributors to the community. We are focusing our social responsibility efforts on innovative crime prevention programs in our hometown of Vancouver. The meetings industry relies on cities being able to attract conferences and events. To do so, they need the right meeting space, access to technology, and interesting local attractions and amenities. However the underlying requirement is always safety. If people don’t feel safe they will go elsewhere. We are doing our part to improve the lives of some of our city’s most vulnerable citizens while making Vancouver a safer place to live, work, play… and host meetings.
Meetingmax is a longtime supporter of the Vancouver Police Foundation (VPF), a local non-profit that funds programs that reduce crime, increase safety, and put a human face to policing. Our founder and CEO, Jeff Duncan sits as a Trustee on the Foundation’s Board. Through the VPF we have funded The Streetfront Marathon Team. This is a program that engages teens facing challenging life circumstances as they train for a number of runs, including the Vancouver and Seattle Marathons. These students, who have trouble in the mainstream school system, learn the importance of positive lifestyle choices, mental and physical fitness, leadership, community spirit, and socially responsible behavior.
In addition to funding the program through the VPF, Meetingmax has been helping raise awareness by participating in the Strachan Hartley Run, which raised $36,300, and securing hotel rooms at the SpringHill Suites in Downtown Seattle for the Seattle Marathon taking place this weekend on November 27. We hope that all of the participating Streetfront kids have an amazing race!
